Welcome to my first post!

Hi there. My name is Lee Renshaw and welcome to my first post. I’m finally doing this! It’s taken me three months from when I installed WordPress to actually write this first post and from there every other post after it (I hope!).

I think that a lot of people have goals in their life that they are good at starting but they never really get anywhere with it. The reason they fail is because of the lack of follow through and consistency. It’s the follow through that is difficult. It’s what causes most people to fail at reaching their goals.

This blog was almost a prime example of this. I was super excited. I already had my domain name. The day I decided to start I woke up early and installed WordPress, chose a theme and installed all the plugins I was going to need. I had all this excitement about how I was going to change the world (or a least a small part of it)! Once I had that initial work done, I felt a sense of accomplishment. And then… nothing.

I installed the blog in November which is a busy time of year for me at my current job so I found it difficult to wake up early and actually write this first post. November turned into December. Not only was I busy with work but now I had Christmas to worry about so Another month went by. By January not even a word had been written for this post. January is also a busy month for us. Exactly two weeks after New Years is my birthday then exactly two weeks after that is my wife’s birthday. This time of year just feels like a whirlwind for me and all the things going on felt overwhelming. To add another task to my seemingly busy schedule just didn’t feel doable.

Well, we just finished celebrating my wife’s birthday and now I feel that I can spend some time on working on this and trying to develop the habit of keeping it up! Today is the day I’m going to follow through with this blog and put myself out there. I will make this happen and I will make this blog a success. If you are reading this that means that I’m one step closer to realizing this goal and I hope that putting myself out there helps you find that fire in you to also try to move the pendulum to work on your goals and taking small steps consistently to get there.

Goals for my first month

I’m going to keep things simple for my first month so that I can make sure I reach my goals and build some momentum. Later on, I’ll work to stretch my monthly goals but for now it’s best to make goals that can be met.

  • Write one post a week at a minimum
  • Finish installing all the plugins I need
  • Build out the rest of the website, including about me page, etc.
  • Add analytics so I can try my progress
  • Compile all my initial expenses
